Have you needed motivation recently to get out for a walk? The weather’s been so wet and dreary lately that I’ve found it difficult to push myself out of the door to go for a walk. Yesterday, was exceptionally beautiful and it reminded me how much being outside can lift your mood. By just taking time out to appreciate our surroundings, observing nature and just getting a bit of fresh air to blow away the cobwebs can make you feel so much better. I hope you had a bit of time out too yesterday to enjoy the sunshine.😎 #thegreatoutdoors #thebeautyofnature #goodmentalhealth #mindfulness #cognitivehypnotherapy

This year I’ve decided to spend more time being creative and less time looking at screens, as I realised I felt much happier in myself by channeling my energy into doing things I enjoy. Did you know that being active releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good, happier in yourself, which boosts your self esteem, helping you to feel more focused and improves your sleep? Any kind of leisure activity serves as a ‘breather’, providing a chance to take a break. By engaging in pleasurable, diversionary activity consequently induces positive emotions and reduces anxiety, depression, anger and loneliness and is associated with lower blood pressure and higher levels of psychology and physical function. So what are you going to bring into your life this year that’ll make you feel happier? I’d love to hear from you.😃 #mentalhealthmatters #creative #activeoutdoorwomen #cognitivehypnotherapy #beatanxiety
It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas 🎄🎄🎄. . . Wishing you all peace and happiness over the Christmas period and beyond. #christmas #blenheimpalace #peace #mentalwellness
A cute little robin caught my eye today and made me smile - another one to add to the mental list I keep in my head of little moments of delight. Cheesy some may think but . . . In positive psychological research, gratitude is strongly associated with greater happiness. It helps us to feel more positive emotions and really appreciate the smallest moments in life. It benefits our health and helps us cope with adversity and even improves our relationships. The more you look for these moments the more your brain becomes primed to look for more and more good things. So what little moments have you felt gratitude for today? #mentalwellness #goodmentalhealth #naturelovers #cognitivehypnotherapy #positivemindset
Anyone that knows me would tell you that my favourite place is by the sea. As a cognitive hypnotherapist I use a technique called an ‘anchor’ to recreate a positive state that has been experienced in the past. My own personal anchor is the feeling of calmness that I experience being by the sea. An anchor can be set in many ways but commonly pressing a part of the body such as squeezing the thumb and finger together is used, whilst taking your mind back to a time when you felt very calm and relaxed or whatever positive state you wish to experience. Remember how you felt in that moment, seeing what you saw and hearing what you heard, making the colours richer and brighter. Using the breath to slow your system down. Practise this a few times each day and over time this state becomes easier to achieve in those triggering moments. For further tips and techniques, get in touch at info@vanessaedwardshypnotherapy.co.uk I specialise in working with teens and children to help them overcome anxiety.

Making the most of a rare dry spell! Beautiful country walk in Halnaker, finally got to see the famous tunnel and it didn’t disappoint. Getting out for a walk in the fresh air is a great buffer for every day stresses.
Take a moment . . . to just appreciate those little things in life that give you a lift. Practising gratitude daily primes your mind to look for more and more good things around you. If you’re feeling stuck, anxious or overwhelmed I can help you using a variety of techniques including hypnosis, NLP and CBT.
If you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by life at the moment, here’s a couple of simple techniques you can try. When we feel very anxious our breathing is often shallow and we feel tense. This technique calms the nervous system, activating your parasympathetic nervous system, allowing you to feel more relaxed. Give it a go.
If you’ve ever wondered about the power of Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy and wondered how it works. This goes a little way to explain it.

It’s so easy to get swept away with all the negativity in the news. This is an interesting article published in The Sunday Times today, reminding us that there’s some positive news out there and things are not always reported in a balanced way. Something to keep in mind.

Is The White Stuff Stopping You From Losing Weight? With the start of a new year, I’m sure many of you are thinking about tackling the weight you’ve put on over Christmas and contemplating yet another diet. But is there another way of losing weight without dieting? Diets can work for a while, but sooner or later you’ll need to come off the diet and then old bad habits are often resumed. Perhaps you’ve dieted in the past with some success by decreasing the amount you eat and exercising more. Unfortunately, after a time our metabolism adapts by slowing down and our hunger hormones increase and this can lead to a higher weight set-point. This results in us starting to feel deprived and demotivated. Hands up I am not a nutritionist, but I have a life-long interest in health and well-being and as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist with additional training in healthy eating and weight loss, I’ve used this knowledge to help clients to lose weight. I guide clients to look at the thoughts and beliefs behind the behaviour that’s driving their weight issue and help them to reframe those limiting beliefs to move them towards their goal. Clients are asked to focus on their future self, being in control of unhealthy habits by the power of positive suggestion to guide them towards the natural choice of healthy eating. This takes the need for will power out of the equation. Recently, I came across some interesting information about the effects of sugar on the body and how it is likely to influence our set weight point. I’m very excited to share this with you. For the full article go to: www.vanessaedwardshypnotherapy.co.uk/blog #healthyfood #healthylifestyle #healthyeating #sugar #balance #balancedmeals #wellnessandhealth #weightlossjourney #weightlosshelp #eatingforhealth #metabolism #menopause #yourbestlife
With autumn well and truly with us, it’s the perfect time of year to take a walk in the fresh air and enjoy the changing colours of the trees. But did you know that by getting out into the fresh air and staying active can also help to reduce your chances of picking up germs. It’s not just the exercise that’s beneficial, it’s the plants and trees themselves that release natural compounds that boost our natural killer cells protecting us against infection. In addition, getting out in nature, exercising and being mindful of your environment can reduce your stress levels, increase your ability to problem solve and boost your creativity. In short, taking the time each day to get outside is one of the best things you can do for your health and well-being. #outdoors #wellbeing #healthylifestyle #mindfulness #exercise #naturelovers #balance #feelgood #fitness #mentalhealth
Just sitting here chilling in the sunshine with the cat . . . life’s all about balance right? So I think it’s only fair to take some time out before tackling the enormous pile of paperwork accumulating on my desk! 🙈 What have you chosen to do today instead of what you should be doing?Hope you’re enjoying this rare October sun 😎
‘Be Like Water’ I was lucky enough to take a trip to Iceland recently and see some of their amazing waterfalls. It reminded me of the phrase ‘be like water’ by letting life come to you. Similar to water, if we go with life’s flow rather than forcing ourselves against it, it often leads to unexpected opportunities when we’re least ready but often at the right time. Have you noticed how we tend to attract what we want when we try the least. Things that you’re passionate about often fall into place. So I encourage you to ‘be like water’, whether your life resembles the turbulence of Niagra Falls or the calm water of a still pond, take on the form that the world has in store for you. Be the most authentic and fluid version of yourself. #authentic #fluidity #gowiththeflow #freedom #outdoorlife #mindfulness #enjoylife #relax #greatoutdoors #wellbeing #healthylifestyle #mentalhealthmatters
Sunshine’s just the tonic we need. 😎 What’s your tonic in life?
What A Difference A Day Makes So, the sun finally decided to come out today! It’s amazing how a little sunshine can make you feel so much better about life. It got me thinking that the weather’s just like our thoughts, feelings and emotions - forever changing. If you can just push through those difficult times and realise these feelings are just temporary. - like clouds in the sky, they’ll pass on by. Thinking about feelings the way we think about the weather can help us to understand and manage those down days we all have at times. Just ride the storm and accept the flow of life. Once you understand this truth, life becomes so much easier. Hope you got to enjoy a bit of sunshine today. 😎 If you need any help managing stress and anxiety, you can contact me at www.vanessaedwardshypnotherapy.co.uk #thegreatoutdoors #thegoodlife #nature #positivevibes #happiness #sunshine #moodlifter #feelinggood #calming #optomistic #anxietymanagement
Walking for Wellness is a group that’s been set up in Godalming to share the benefits of walking in a natural environment to ease stress and anxiety. Come and join us.
The Calming Effect Of Nature Can walking in nature really help you feel calmer? The short answer is yes! The combined effects of being in nature, movement and mindfulness (staying present by tuning into your senses) can really make you feel less anxious and calms your mind. Research has shown that walking at your own pace for 40 minutes, 3 times a week can improve your cognitive performance and ward off depression. Amazingly, it can also help you sleep better, boost your mood, and increase your focus and creativity by helping you to ‘zone out’ by just giving your mind a bit of space from day to day stresses. In short, walking mindfully in nature allows us to reconnect to ourselves. It’s free, it doesn’t require much time or energy and helps to control our weight and tones our body. What’s not to like? Are you feeling overwhelmed with your emotions right now? As we’re experiencing prolonged levels of fear and uncertainty in our lives at the moment, it’s not surprising that we might feel this way. If we can come to accept this change and acknowledge that there’s likely to be some challenges ahead, but remind ourselves that this state of unrest isn’t permanent, we can help ourselves to move forwards. An important first step to counter this feeling of overwhelm is to ensure that we take the time to take care of ourselves. It’s only when we learn to do this that we can support others. If you find you’re struggling with life at the moment, try focusing on the next week or two, rather than looking too far ahead to the future. Rather than rushing through a constant to-do list, give yourself permission to enjoy a bit of time out, even if it’s just enjoying a cup of coffee or relaxing in a warm bath. Chatting to other people can really help you gain a new perspective on any worries and stop you ruminating and internalising problems. As the saying goes ‘a problem shared is a problem solved’. For me, I find getting out into the fresh air really helps to clear my mind and puts me in a more positive mindset. Now is the perfect time to get outdoors to enjoy all the stunning autumn colours. Having felt overwhelmed recently, I found that by just taking myself off and taking the time to really appreciate Mother Nature at its best made me feel so much better.
